At 15:07:26 on August 5 CHN Energy's Ningdong Renewable Hydrogen Carbon Emission Reduction Demonstration Zone successfully produced qualified green hydrogen. This achievement marked the successful first-time startup and operation of the project and the completion of online hydrogen quality testing. It signified the full integration of China's first innovative hydrogen energy ecosystem project, which encompasses green hydrogen production, storage, transportation, utilization, and quality testing.
It is reported that the green hydrogen it produced is transported via pipelines to the nearby Yongli Integrated Energy Station, where it is used to refuel various types of vehicles, including hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks, passenger cars, and municipal sanitation vehicles.
The Ningdong Renewable Hydrogen Carbon Emission Reduction Demonstration Zone Project under CHN Energy commenced construction in October 2022. The first phase involves a total investment of approximately 3.8 billion yuan and includes 500 MW of photovoltaic power, 120 MW of hydrogen-producing photovoltaic power, two hydrogen production plants with a total capacity of 20,000 standard cubic meters per hour, and two hydrogen refueling stations with a total capacity of 4,000 kilograms per day. The second phase plans to build a hydrogen production plant with an annual capacity of 1,697 tons, scheduled for completion by 2025. This project fully leverages the hydrogen usage scenarios at the Ningdong base, explores new models for green energy supply, and enhances the region's capacity for renewable energy absorption. Once operational, the project is expected to significantly drive the transition from fossil fuel-based hydrogen production to electrolysis-based hydrogen production, replace coal with hydrogen, and use green hydrogen for carbon reduction. It is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 836,400 tons per year, with a total reduction of about 20.91 million tons over its 25-year operational period.
