On September 6, eight tank trucks loaded with 208 tons of liquefied carbon dioxide slowly departed the carbon capture site of the 3 million tons/year CCUS demonstration project. This marked the successful completion of the 400,000 tons/year oil-recovery-grade production process for Phase I of CHN Energy Ningxia Coal's 500,000 tons/year carbon dioxide capture and liquefaction project, with the smooth production of qualified liquefied carbon dioxide.
The Ningxia 3 million tons/year CCUS demonstration project represents the world's first green carbon reduction cooperation between the modern coal chemical industry and a large oil and gas field. Phase I of the project uses high-purity carbon dioxide discharged from Ningxia Coal's coal-to-liquids (CTL) company and olefins company as the primary carbon source, with a focus on building a 500,000 tons/year carbon dioxide capture and liquefaction facility. This includes a 400,000 tons/year carbon dioxide oil recovery and sequestration project and a 100,000 tons/year carbon dioxide underground coal mine utilization project. When the project is put into operation, most of the carbon dioxide produced will be used for oil recovery, with the remainder utilized for mine fire suppression and other local market needs.
